Memorial Day

I hope everyone is having a wonderful and safe Memorial Day.  As you know, my hubby is in California for his daughter's graduation this week, so I'm home alone today.  At first I was sad and then I thought about the last time I was home alone, (Halloween), and remembered how I turned it around by writing a funny poem.  So I thought that I would do that again, but then I remembered why I was home today and not at work....because it's Memorial Day.  Then I thought of my precious nephew who died overseas and decided to write another kind of poem.  The older and more mature I get, the more I appreciate exactly what the men and women serving in the military do for our country and how their sacrifices allow us to live our comfortable lives and follow our dreams.  This poem was inspired by my nephew, Corey Owens.  It's short, but it is true to the qualities that I saw in him.  I love you, Corey.

Remembering a Soldier

You were a soldier, a man of great character and honor;
who pushed fear aside to find the courage needed for your calling.

You were a soldier standing ready to defend this great country and our freedom.

You were a soldier who sacrificed precious time with family and friends;
who left the comforts of your own home to keep us safe in ours.

You were a soldier willing to lay down your life, so the rest of us could live ours in peace.

You were a soldier who endured the hellish horrors of war, in the darkest places
of this world, to insure the innocent would suffer no more.

You were a soldier who kept many secrets locked deep in your soul to protect
those you loved.

You were a soldier who, through it all, always came home with a loving heart and warm hugs.

You were a soldier who had a positive attitude and a smile for everyone.

You were a soldier who brought laughter and joy to the lives of all who knew you.

You were also a Son, Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin.....a man greatly loved and lost too soon.

Lonely Nights....

I've had lots of things going on the past couple of weeks.  Scott and I gave our family some exciting news last weekend.  So far only family and close friends know, but stay tuned as it will be announced here before it happens.  Only those who read this blog will know before it's obvious to everyone.  So stay tuned....

I'm so looking forward to next weekend as I will be picking up my daughter for her summer visit.  Yay!!  I'm glad she is happy and doing well, but I miss her so much it hurts.  Sometimes it's hard for me when I see that she can function without me and doesn't really need me.  Maybe one day she will need her momma again, but for now I'll just have to deal with it.  I'm very glad she is happy with her new life.  =)

So Scott left yesterday for California since his daughter, Amber, will be graduating high school next week.  I'm sad that I couldn't go with him, but I used up all my available vacation time last month when I had pneumonia.  Anyone who knows me knows that I've never been able to sleep at night when he is not home....and that has not changed....ugh!  I got only a few hours of sleep today as I didn't even doze off until it was daylight outside, (probably around 5 or 6am).  Needless to say, I am wiped out today, but trying to stay awake hoping that my body will just sleep tonight out of sheer exhaustion.  I'm going to tray and force myself to do some cleaning around our room today and tomorrow, (in between catching up on my recorded shows of course..lol).  It's going to be a long week ahead....

I'll be home alone tomorrow, but hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Memorial Day!

Keep Pushing and Moving Forward!
